Welcome to the Art of Maggi Colwell
Art as ritual, image as symbol, seeking transformation and connection with spirit and soul.
Guiding you to meet your soul through grounding, embodiment, and empowerment. through ritual, inspirational art, and depth therapy, my work takes you on a transformative journey of metamorphosis.
This is art as a living process not decorations, but discovery.
The Unconscious Revealed series show a second image under blacklight - one I can’t plan for because I don’t work under blacklight. These hidden layers reflect something essential about the unconscious: it’s always speaking, even when we can’t quite hear or see it.
Many of my work are created in altered states of awareness or intuitive flow, engaging active imagination and embodying the feminine principle. These dual modes of visibility invite the viewer to consider what lies beneath the surface of waking life.
I let my soul speak in color and image.
I consider art-making a conversation with my soul. I return to the blank canvas again and again to witness what wants to emerge- what feelings, symbols, and archetypes are rising from the mirror within.
My paintings begin in abstraction, flowing from color, emotion, and intuitive mark - making. I often write and sing mantras, focus meditative energy while painting, and deep, focused, intention as I work.
I ask my painting, “what do I see?”
“What sees me back? What does it have to tell me?”
Over time, images sharpens and shift into more recognizable forms, inviting me to reflect on their messages. Symbols are carriers from the unconscious, the pull forth rich treasure hidden in the depths to give us greater awareness and broader perspectives, new ideas, and greater consciousness.
My work explores the symbolic language of the unconscious through an interdisciplinary lens of depth psychology, ritual, and archetypal imagery.
Drawing from my mythology, mysticism, and the symbolism of personal dreamwork. I create paintings and mixed media pieces that speaks to the ineffable moments of metamorphosis.
My background as a Jungian art therapist and training candidate in psychoanalysis at the C.G. Jung Institute Zurich deeply informs both the process and intention behind my work. Whether evoking a mythic narrative, invoking ancestral knowledge, or engaging with personal symbols.
I aim to open door for the viewer into their own inner world -
A return to soul.
