This painting is an experiment in psychic energy.
Each layer was painted in meditation with one of the Seven Hermetic Principles from The Kybalion, the foundational teachings of Western magic, held in the body as an invocation, like calls to like, and moved through the brush.
Mentalism. Correspondence. Vibration. Polarity. Rhythm. Cause and Effect. Gender.
Each one a layer. Each layer a conversation between the painter, viewer, and the piece. As the work deepened I started to notice something unexpected: the Hermetic Principles and the fundamental principles of art and design are describing the same thing. Harmony. Contrast. Repetition. Rhythm. The language is different but the underlying structural energy is the same.
These paintings carry energy that does not survive a photograph. You really do have to be in the room with them. Your eyes are so much more sophisticated than a camera. How deeply are your looking at your environment?
The blacklight image is something else entirely. I don't work with blacklight while painting. I have no idea what is there until the light changes. The second image is not planned. It is the energy of the piece, revealing itself, the unconscious of the painter and Psyche speaking through in her own way.
